Mini Split AC Repair in Mar Vista: Diagnosis, Parts and a Written Quote

A ductless unit in your Mar Vista bungalow, duplex or backyard ADU has stopped cooling, or the indoor head is dripping, or the display blinks a fault code. That is a mini split AC repair, and the work starts with a diagnosis, not a guess at a part. Ask for a written quote or a diagnostic visit and we will book a time.

What sets the price of a mini split repair

There is no flat number for ductless repair, because the cost is decided by what the diagnosis finds. A fan motor, a control board, a sensor, a drain fault and a refrigerant leak are five different jobs with five different totals. The number comes from the visit and the written quote, which you get before any repair work starts. Our ductless mini split service covers repair, service and new units.

These items move the total:

  • The part that failed and whether it is a single component or a pair
  • Whether the fault is in the outdoor unit, the indoor head or the line set between them
  • How many indoor heads the system has, since a multi-zone setup shares one outdoor unit
  • How hard the outdoor unit is to reach on a narrow lot, and whether the indoor head is mounted high
  • Whether refrigerant has to be added after a leak is closed

We open with the symptom you describe, so tell us what the unit is doing when you book. The more exact the description, the more likely the right part is on the truck.

What a diagnostic visit covers

The technician works through the system in a set order:

  • The fault code on the indoor display or the remote, if there is one
  • Power at the outdoor unit and the condition of the electrical connections
  • Airflow across the indoor coil and the fan
  • The condensate drain, when the complaint is water at the indoor head
  • Refrigerant pressures, and a leak search if the charge is low
  • Communication between the indoor and outdoor units

You then get the finding in plain words and a written quote for the repair. Parts, labor and the total are on separate lines.

Repair, or replace the head or the unit

Some faults are cheap to fix. Others point at a component whose price approaches a new part of the system. The quote helps you decide, and you can ask for both numbers. If a single indoor head is the problem on a multi-zone system, we can price replacing that head against repairing it. If the outdoor unit is the problem, we price its repair next to a replacement.

When a replacement is the better buy, ductless fits older homes well because it needs no ductwork. Running new ducts through a post-war bungalow, a 1950s duplex or an ADU can cost more than the unit itself, and for homes where duct modification would exceed $3,000, a ductless mini split often makes more sense. Our heating installation service also covers heat pump systems.

Refrigerant and permits on a mini split job

R-22 is no longer produced, so a repair on an older R-22 system depends on reclaimed refrigerant, which affects what the repair costs. New residential split AC and heat pump systems are now made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32, and that is what a replacement unit will run on.

A straightforward repair does not usually need a permit. Replacing an AC or heat pump in California does. In Mar Vista the permit comes through LADBS, and we pull it and book the inspection as part of a replacement quote. Electric service is LADWP, and the electrical connection to the outdoor unit is one of the lines we check on any visit.

Tight lots, close-set homes and multi-unit buildings

A mini split is chosen because the outdoor unit is compact and quiet, which matters on small parcels where the neighbor's window is a few feet away. That also means the outdoor unit can sit in a tight side yard, so reaching it is a real part of the repair. We note the access on the quote when it affects the labor.

If you manage a duplex or a rental with a ductless unit in each space, tell us how many units and we will schedule the diagnosis so each one is covered in the same visit. Written quotes can list each unit separately.

We work across Mar Vista, Palms, Del Rey, Venice and Culver City. If the unit quits on a hot afternoon or at night, we answer around the clock.

Mini split repair questions

Do you repair a unit that someone else installed?

Yes. We service ductless systems of all major brands, whoever put them in.

The unit is blowing air but not cooling. What does the visit check?

The refrigerant charge, the coil, the fan and the outdoor unit. We find which one is failing and put the repair on paper before work starts.

Can you fix only one indoor head on a multi-zone system?

Yes. We diagnose that head and its line, and the quote covers only what that zone needs.

Does the visit end with a price?

Yes. You leave with a written quote listing the repair, the parts and the total. You approve it, or you decline and compare it with a replacement quote.

Can you price a new unit next to the repair?

Yes. Tell us when you book and the visit ends with both numbers.
